What is the public's opinion of American football in the UK?

January 5, 2009

The Super Bowl is possibly going to soon be held in London – but do people in the UK really want American football?

First of all, I'd like to point out that American Football will never be as popular in UK as Real Football. Just like "Soccer has problems scoring popularity points in the states. This said however, the people in the UK love their sports, and American football already has a fan base over here. I'd definatley go for a look if I got the chance. Not sure about playing sports in full bullet proof body armour though, and is there any way to speed the game up?

As an Englishman, I can assure you that this absurd and infantile game will never take off here. 'American football' is completely unwatchable, heavily commercialised and is more an entertainment industry a la WWE Wrestling than a legitimate sport.

You can keep the 'SuperBowl', mate; we don't want it. Remember what happened to the 'London Monarchs'? Exactly…
