Many sets of emeralds have appeared in several places like South Island, West Side Island and Angel Island. They are the basis of most of the games’ plots, and the player is frequently required to collect them all in order to defeat Doctor Robotnik and accomplish the games’ “good endings”, super forms, or both. In some games, the emeralds can be found in hidden locations within the main levels. In most later games, the Chaos Emeralds are chanced upon by the players during the games’ story modes. When all seven Chaos Emeralds are collected, Sonic can initiate a super transformation into “Super Sonic”, an even faster and invincible version of himself that can fly.
