Perfecting The Art Of Buying Gear For Kiteboarding

February 27, 2009

Few things pump your adrenaline as much as kiteboarding does. For those who like to experience sporting action to the extreme and like living on the edge, kiteboarding is a natural choice for them. If you are constantly feeling a need for speed and dying for a real thrill ride, kiteboarding is the thing for you. If you are among those who do not yet know what kiteboarding actually means, let me tell you that it is an extreme sport using powerful, controllable kites to propel riders on in-line skates, off-road skates or mountain boards at speeds up to 60 mph across parking lots, dry lakes, grassy fields and sandy beaches. So do you feel like trying out this great sport, if you do, then you should get some kite boards.

The origins of kiteboarding can be traced back to the early 90’s, in the early kite skating (or Rollerkiting, as it was then called) activities of sport kite enthusiasts in the US East Coast. In those early days, kiteskaters were mostly to be found in large parking lots practicing their craft. However with the increasing popularity of kiteboarding, people outside the USA also participate in this sport these days. Early kite skaters used Rollerblades and four-line controllable kites made of parafoil for a fast and thrilling ride.

However the general interest over kiteboarding waned a little in subsequent years with the advent of kite buggy racing. Nonetheless, it came back stronger than ever in 1992, thanks to the pioneering efforts of Bob Childs who built a pair of off-road in-line skates using Rollerblade boots and scooter wheels, which reignited the general interest in kiteboarding again. With an increase in its popularity, more and more people has been asking for kiteboarding gear since then.

Over the last few years, the equipment used in the sport have undergone many changes and improvements. Anybody wishing to take up kiteboarding can easily avail all the requisite kiteboarding gear these days. It is critical to use only the best quality gear that will not give way under the usually strenuous demands of the sport.

Like every other sport, performance depends substantially on the quality of the kiteboarding gear that you are using. Using high quality equipment will on the one hand uphold the quality and on the other hand, ensure that you will be safe. Recently, ATB skateboard riders have joined the league of kite skaters. Using mountain-boards, the kite skateboarding daredevils practice their craft on multi-terrain surfaces although at a lesser speed than Kite Skaters. However, kite skateboarding offers a better opportunity for performing jump tricks and other trick moves.
