Minnesota Vikings – Minneapolis, Minnesota
April 17, 2009
Go Vikings!! A great way to explore Minnesota tourism is to go to a game! The Vikings are members of the NFL Northern Division playing out of their home stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Previous to playing at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis the team played at the outdoor field, Metropolitan Stadium, in Bloomfield. The move to the new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings happened after the 1981 season. No more playing in the Minnesota cold and snow, no more fans wearing their snowmobile suits to keep warm, now the stadium is an indoor facility.
The Vikings have played in 4 Super Bowl games but to date have not won one. There are other years and they still have a shot.
The lease for the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome expires for the Vikings in 2011. Since the team is a major draw for tourism to the state of Minnesota the team has been working to get an agreement with the state to build a new stadium on the same location that the current stadium is located. They will use some of the same infrastructure to keep costs down but expand the stadium. Time will tell if this plan will be approved.
