ITF Tae kwon do or judo?

October 1, 2008

well im moving soon and i was thinking about trying this TKD school there or a judo school

TKD school offer as well BJJ and boxing and they do works with a mma team call the ratpack and itf looks good puch to the face no chess gear look good

judo school is a traditional Judo school all gi work but they are very good the school team in going to France for a judo fight of something

i already do BJJ Karate and Kickboxing if i go to the tkd i can still work on my bjj if i go to the judo school my bjj can help me and i would like to try judo
Inukami WOW did you read what up there^^

ITF dose not were chess gear anyone who know tkd will no that.

well if he is teaching boxing as well hes most likey going to teach you how to punch to the face and they do teach bjj in the tkd school so if i want to continued BJJ i can

never thought id say it but….id go with the tkd school.

not because of the taekwondo of course. but everything else.

there isnt much judo could teach you that the tkd school couldnt.

judo is traditional and basically just throws…and a bit of grappling (ne waza)

bjj is basically judo with a ne waza emphasis.

id go to the tkd school and study every art they teach. judo and bjj are one and the same to me…just with a different emphasis.

again, the only thing i see you gaining from judo is a few throws. which im sure they can teach you at the tkd school as well. if not…you can always take a seminar or a couple private lessons at the judo school and learn some throws.

I think TKW is attack and defence
And I think Judo is mainly attack.

I'd probably.choose TKD but you sound like you'd prefer Judo. Its entirely your desision.

It's up to you, really. Try a class at both schools and see which you like best.

I practice ITF style taekwondo. It's really good. In class, we do patterns, sparring and breaking, amongst other things. You'll never get bored during class because there's always a lot of activity going on. You'll also notice your flexibility increasing significantly.

I've done Judo and Tae Kwon Do, as well as some other styles. I'm doing BJJ now. Your BJJ definitely will help you with Judo once it goes to the ground, but a huge part of judo is the throws. Judo also has it's emphasis on sport so some things won't translate well to a fight situation.

Me, I would go with TKD school. But I've already tried out Judo, so if I were you I might check it out first and then if I didn't fall in love with it I would go back to TKD after a few months.

huh? First of all about ITF Tae Kwon Do:

You do use chest protection as well as foot, hands, head, and knee gear. Its not because ITF tournament rules let you use punch to the head that in the school you're going to the master will allow it, many don't. If you do BJJ you will not be using it because you will be using Tae Kwon Do which focuses on striking of course, not grappling. If you do Judo your BJJ will help because Judo focuses on grappling. Most of the BJJ stuff was taken from Judo.
