How should you deal with cables when mounting a television?

December 6, 2008

We got a flat panel LCD a few months ago and have recently been thinking of mounting it on the wall. How do most people deal with the massive amount of cables connected to the tv? We have a DVD player, DVR, and a Wii, plus power cables… Do most people just mount the TV above the old tv stand (this is where we organize our Wii etc).

I find it a little silly just to mount the TV above my TV stand that is around 3 feet deep.

If you have a TV stand, you might as well use it. Most people run the wires through their walls but that can be quite expensive.

You can run the wires in the wall up to the tv (for power, an electrician can install an outlet behind the tv the rest of the wires are low current and you can run them yourself). Under the tv, you can use a shelf to house all the components.
