What is the best way for a young teenager to get in shape for bike racing?

Please help, I'm helping someone else out here.

Nothing too long, just a few simple road races.

Well, riding is the answer. Not sure exactly how motivated this teen is though.

Here's a reasonable? schedule:
Try to use rolling terrain if possible, hills help a lot in training.
4 days of riding total
3 days @ 1 hour
1 day @ 2+ hours

On the 3 days mix it up.
1 day do a full hour + at near max speed.
1 day do as many hills as you can push up at max, rest then repeat (intervals)
1 day do interval sprints 100 to 300+ yards rest repeat

On the long day ride moderately hard getting some good mileage in.

If you're in good shape you should be able to do this in a couple weeks - work up to it. If it's too much try to get your time in just increase the rest time. Rest does not mean get off the bike, stay on and soft pedal.

What this will do is work on your base aerobic fitness, anaerobic fitness and strength.

There is many variations you can do but this would be a good starting point. Max efforts need to be MAX, rest means slow down stay on, soft pedal until your heart rate drops enough for another max effort, don't try to keep a high pace when resting and rest as long as needed.

If this is too much time involved shorten it up but keep the basic pattern in place. 35 minute rides minimum and a long one of 1.5 hours min.

Intervals are hard to do. Do the best you can and if you need a 5 minute rest inbetween it's OK.

How can I shoot a basketball accurately?

I'm 5 foot 5 and I am a girl who's 14. I wanna know how to shoot a basketball without using two hands, and actually get it in most of the time.

exactly what micahm03 said, just practice constantly. Shooting is muscle memory, you can look that up and understand it more. Another thing…..dotn listen to people who tell you to "do this" or "do that" to your shooting form. Two of the best shooters in NBA history did not have "perfect"shooting form. Reggie Miller and Larry Bird. Stick with what your comfortable with. Accept advice of course, but you dont have to neccessarily stick to ONE "form" of shooting.

Who agrees that baseball is the only sport that home field advantage matters?

Yes I know about crowds and everything, but in baseball the home team is given a chance to win if they score first or are given a chance to win if they fall behind in extra innings. Do you agree?

I don't think that the home field advantage in Baseball has anything to do with the fact that they bat last - each team gets the same number of at bats. But baseball is unique in the fact that each field is different - not only in dimensions, but in the length of the grass, the way the wind swirls, the way that sun and shadows play on the field, etc. That is where teams can take advantage of being at home.
While I think that home field advantage exists in other sports, it exists more due to either weather conditions (in the case of football) or crowd noise.

Is there a competition equivalent to a world cup where they compete?

England doesn't have one, but there is a team called the great british lions who represent the UK (I think). Not sure if there is any kind of international competition either. Don't ask me how I know any of this…

New Super Mario Bros Review (Ds)

Damn, does it feel good to go back to Mario’s roots. Don’t get me wrong - Super Mario 64 was an important and integral step for Nintendo’s plumber hero to take, what with the company essentially being the trailblazer in the world of 3D platforming. But in moving forward, rising expectations pretty much dictated that Nintendo shouldn’t look back, so the classic sidescrolling formula was simply relegated to “classic” status, only returning in retro repeats of existing games on current systems and, occasionally, as spin-off franchises for other Nintendo characters. An official Super Mario game would have to be something special for it to exist on a current Nintendo system, which is why the release of New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS is so significant: it absolutely is something special. This game marks a brilliant return to Mario’s side-scrolling environments, with a look, feel, and play that feels unbelievably classic, with new elements that do a fantastic job advancing the design.

The timeline’s a little scattered, but while Super Mario Sunshine was the latest game in the Super Mario series on paper, New Super Mario Bros. marks the first time in 15 years that Nintendo’s created a classically-designed Super Mario game - Super Mario World ended the plumber’s starring role in the 2D platformer series. Yoshi may have picked up the gauntlet in a labeled sequel a couple years later, but outside of a few nods here and there in spinoffs like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, Mario hasn’t starred in this Plumber Saves the Princess role in a side-scrolling platformer since the Super NES launch title.

With this new game, the more things change, the more they stay the same: the basis for New Super Mario Bros. is, surprise, to save the princess. In this design, Bowser Jr. has snagged Peach right out from Mario’s nose, and taken her to the closest fortress possible. This game won’t win any awards in storytelling because there is none - Mario will simply have to bounce from level to level getting to each challenge’s castle while collecting coins and stomping Koopas, Goombas, and any other oddly-named inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom. Anyone who’s played the original Super Mario Bros. - and at this point, if you haven’t, stop reading and find the nearest NES for a refresher course - will recognize the early nods to the original game design, from hopping on the flagpole to finish a round to Bowser protecting the end of the first castle.

So New Super Mario Bros. is a game that’s been a long time coming. It’s clear that a Super Mario game is a really big deal for Nintendo, and a game bearing the Super Mario namesake needs to be significant. It took the company more than a decade to advance the Mario mechanics in the side-scrolling design, but how much further can the company go without straying from the existing run/jump/bounce formula and becoming something not-so-Mario?
